Keith Brown
Keith Michael Brown is an award-winning filmmaker, visual artist, journalist, and media executive whose work reflects a deep commitment to equity, truth-telling, and the transformative power of storytelling. His career has been dedicated to elevating underrepresented voices and illuminating the African American experience with authenticity, accuracy, and respect.
Brown made his directorial debut with A New Day Begun: The Black National Anthem, a short film and portrait series inspired by the historic song, exploring Black identity, history, and cultural resilience. He currently serves as Executive Vice President of Content at Firelight Films, the premier documentary production company focused on American history through diverse and inclusive lenses. In this role, he oversees content development and production across Firelight’s slate of documentaries and series, serving as both executive producer and producer on projects that challenge conventional narratives and center historically marginalized communities.
With more than two decades of experience across major media organizations—including CNN Headline News, CBS, NBC, BET, Paramount, and PBS—Brown has built a reputation as a visionary content leader and thoughtful collaborator. Prior to Firelight, he was Senior Vice President of Programming at HLN (CNN Headline News), where he led primetime programming, original series, talent, scheduling, and editorial direction. He has also held senior leadership roles at BET Networks and Spike TV, managing news, public affairs, and documentary programming across platforms.
Earlier in his career, Brown worked as a broadcast journalist and producer for respected news organizations, including NOW with Bill Moyers on PBS and NBC News Dateline Specials. At CBS News, he was part of the producing team for In the Killing Fields of America, which earned a Peabody Award, an Emmy Award, and a Robert F. Kennedy Award.
A best-selling non-fiction author, Brown consistently champions stories that confront systemic injustice while celebrating cultural resilience. His work has earned some of the industry’s highest honors, including an Academy Award, multiple Emmy Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and Peabody Awards.
