Marc Howland
Marc Howland is the Co-Founder and CEO of Breadless, the Detroit-born fast-casual brand reimagining the sandwich by replacing traditional bread with nutrient-rich leafy greens. Featuring chef-crafted sandwiches, hearty bowls, vibrant salads, and smoothies, Breadless is designed to fuel busy professionals, everyday athletes, and go-getters with fresh, satisfying meals that deliver bold flavor without weighing them down.
Founded by Howland alongside LaTresha “LC” Howland and Ryan Eli Salter, Breadless began with pop-ups in Detroit gyms before opening its first brick-and-mortar location in 2022. The Black-owned company has since expanded throughout Metro Detroit, with a presence at destinations including Comerica Park and Detroit Metro Airport, as it prepares for continued growth and national franchising.
Howland graduated magna cum laude from Brown University, where he competed as a two-sport varsity athlete in football and track. He later earned his MBA with honors from Harvard Business School. Before becoming an entrepreneur, he worked in finance at Goldman Sachs and The Carlyle Group.
His path into the restaurant industry was intentionally unconventional. After struggling to find healthy, satisfying low-carb meals that fit his demanding lifestyle, Howland decided to learn the food business from the ground up. Despite his Ivy League education and finance background, he went to work making sandwiches at Jimmy John’s, gaining firsthand experience in restaurant operations before launching his own concept.
Today, Howland describes Breadless as more than a restaurant. With its mission to “Fuel Your Next,” the company sits at the intersection of food, wellness, accessibility, and performance, with a vision of becoming a nationally recognized lifestyle and wellness brand.
Howland lives in Detroit with his wife and fellow Breadless Co-Founder, LC, and their two children.
